Background Removal Lab

Four repository test files were processed with the current browser model. We documented 20 separate edge observations, including visible failures, so you can judge where the tool helps and where manual cleanup is still required.

How the run was measured

The four files were added to one batch and processed in order on MacBook Pro (Apple M3 Pro, 18 GB) using Chrome 150. The first timing includes the model cold start; later timings are warm runs from the same tab.

Alpha 0 is counted as fully transparent. Alpha values from 1 to 254 are counted as soft-edge pixels. Soft alpha can be useful antialiasing or unwanted background, so every numerical result is paired with a visual inspection.

Why this file is difficult

Transparent glass, repeated highlights, warm reflections, and the contact shadow overlap the original setting.

Five observations for Amber glass bottle

Ribbed cap retains its shape inspection crop

OBSERVATION 01

Ribbed cap retains its shape

Transparency and reflections

Focus: Glass stopper and narrow highlights

The outer cap remains continuous, but the reflective ridges carry partial alpha values that need checking on a dark background.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
Left outline is mostly continuous inspection crop

OBSERVATION 02

Left outline is mostly continuous

Product silhouette

Focus: Left shoulder and vertical bottle edge

The silhouette is readable at catalog size. A thin warm fringe is visible when the PNG is enlarged.

Manual cleanup recommended · moderate finding
Internal reflections stay with the subject inspection crop

OBSERVATION 03

Internal reflections stay with the subject

Transparency and reflections

Focus: Bottle body and vertical amber highlights

The model preserves the warm internal structure instead of making the whole bottle transparent, which keeps the product recognizable.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
Label edge stays sharp inspection crop

OBSERVATION 04

Label edge stays sharp

Fine strokes and text

Focus: Rectangular paper label and thin baseline

The hard label boundary and small horizontal line remain intact, with no visible holes introduced inside the label.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
Base carries a visible fringe inspection crop

OBSERVATION 05

Base carries a visible fringe

Low contrast and shadows

Focus: Contact shadow and lower-left glass edge

Bright remnants and warm pixels remain below the bottle. Large product cards need a manual cleanup pass here.

Why this file is difficult

Thin pen strokes must stay connected while paper texture and uneven lighting are removed.

Five observations for Ink signature on paper

Opening stroke remains connected inspection crop

OBSERVATION 01

Opening stroke remains connected

Fine strokes and text

Focus: Long curved stroke at the upper left

The stroke is preserved from end to end, including its two small terminal dots, although a pale halo remains around the ink.

Manual cleanup recommended · moderate finding
Letter crossings survive inspection crop

OBSERVATION 02

Letter crossings survive

Fine strokes and text

Focus: Overlapping strokes in the first name

Intersections are not punched out, so the handwritten structure remains readable at document size.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
Thin middle word remains legible inspection crop

OBSERVATION 03

Thin middle word remains legible

Low contrast and shadows

Focus: Small, lightly written middle word

The lightest strokes survive but become softer than the larger letters. Test them at the intended print scale.

Manual cleanup recommended · moderate finding
Tall strokes avoid jagged breaks inspection crop

OBSERVATION 04

Tall strokes avoid jagged breaks

Fine strokes and text

Focus: Vertical and diagonal strokes in the surname

Soft alpha pixels keep the long lines visually smooth and connected rather than turning them into stair-step edges.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
Final flourish is preserved inspection crop

OBSERVATION 05

Final flourish is preserved

Fine strokes and text

Focus: Long underline and terminal loop

The full flourish remains visible without a paper rectangle, making the output usable for ordinary document overlays.

Why this file is difficult

Dark strands cross blue sky, white foam, and a bright shoreline, so many boundary pixels contain both hair and background color.

Five observations for Portrait with loose hair

Sky pockets remain above the crown inspection crop

OBSERVATION 01

Sky pockets remain above the crown

Portrait and hair

Focus: Small gaps between hair strands at the top of the head

Several blue and white pockets remain attached to the hair. They are visible on dark backgrounds and require retouching.

Manual cleanup recommended · major finding
Loose left strands are simplified inspection crop

OBSERVATION 02

Loose left strands are simplified

Portrait and hair

Focus: Thin hair crossing sky and water

The main hair shape remains, while the finest isolated strands merge into a rougher boundary with blue remnants.

Manual cleanup recommended · major finding
Bright foam is confused with the subject inspection crop

OBSERVATION 03

Bright foam is confused with the subject

Low contrast and shadows

Focus: Hair edge against white shoreline foam

White fragments stay beside the hair because the edge and background share similar brightness at this point.

Manual cleanup recommended · major finding
Arm silhouette is stable inspection crop

OBSERVATION 04

Arm silhouette is stable

Portrait and hair

Focus: Large skin boundary along the lower-left arm

The high-contrast arm edge is continuous and clean enough for small profile or social layouts.

Usable at the stated scale · minor finding
White shirt edge keeps colored contamination inspection crop

OBSERVATION 05

White shirt edge keeps colored contamination

Low contrast and shadows

Focus: White fabric against bright water and sand

Yellow and blue pixels remain along parts of the fabric boundary. A white destination background hides more of this defect than a dark one.

Manual cleanup recommended · moderate finding

What this small test can support

Hard product silhouettes and dark handwriting are more reliable than loose hair, pale branding, glass, and contact shadows in this set. The result is useful as a first cut, not evidence that every image will be publication-ready.

Asset and correction policy

The four files are versioned QuickBGCut repository fixtures. Their original capture metadata was not retained, so the lab describes them as project test assets rather than claiming original photography.
